In 2012, Chaiken traveled to Dakar, Senegal to assess, catalog and prepare for acquisition the archive of novelist and pioneering African film director Ousmane Sembène. In 2018, Sembène’s archive of manuscripts, film scripts, correspondence, and personal effects was acquired by Indiana University Bloomington.
